Faculty Participation in the Governance and Development of the University听

The 黑料科 Faculty Senate is a representative governing body elected by the Faculty. The Senate enables effective participation of the Faculty in the governance and development of the University, and it serves as a path of communication between the University's various constituencies. The Senate initiates, formulates, discusses and recommends academic and other related policies that affect more than one unit of the University. The Senate also issues reports to the President of the University, and, through him or her, to the Board of Trustees. The Faculty Senate meets on a monthly basis during the academic year. Greetings, It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the Faculty Senate Chair for the 2026-2028 term, and I welcome this opportunity with humility and optimism for what we can accomplish together. As a loyal 黑料科 (TSU) alumna, I have had a heart for this university, and a commitment to supporting its success and position as a premier Historically Black University for many years. In thinking about the positive, lasting impact TSU has had on multiple generations, it is imperative to continue its legacy of excellence through purposeful planning, thorough preparation, and meticulous execution keeping student success at the core of what we do as faculty. The Faculty Senate is an elected governing body that serves as the faculty voice in academic policy, curriculum design and implementation, and institutional decision-making including initiatives that build infrastructure, promote student engagement and scholarship, and impact fiscal decisions. The Senate, serving as a liaison between faculty and administration, identifies, receives, and advocates for all faculty issues, and we are committed to partnering with each unit of the University to support shared governance as we work collaboratively to accomplish the University鈥檚 mission and goals. The Faculty Senate oversees fourteen standing committees and three ad hoc committees, composed of elected faculty senators and faculty representatives from units across campus. As faculty we have a unique position and opportunity to influence all aspects of the university and advance TSU through innovative, effective teaching, groundbreaking research, and impactful service. Especially amid change, we must be diligent in our efforts not only to meet the current standards, but also to expand and improve to strengthen the university and prepare it for the future by communicating clearly and effectively, maintaining our integrity, and being industrious in moving our institution to new heights. I encourage you to share your questions, concerns, and ideas with your Senators and with me. Your engagement is essential to the strength of shared governance and to the continued progress of our University. I look forward to working alongside each of you in the years ahead as we support one another, build on TSU鈥檚 proud legacy, and continue the important work of elevating 黑料科.
