鈿狅笍 IMPORTANT IMMIGRATION NOTICE - End of 鈥淒uration of Status鈥� (Effective Sept 15, 2026)
On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a final rule that significantly changes how F-1 students maintain their legal status. Effective September 15, 2026, the traditional "Duration of Status" (D/S) framework will end.
Please be aware of the following critical changes:

Fixed Admission Periods: Your I-94 will no longer show "D/S." Instead, you will be admitted for a specific period tied to your I-20 program end date.

Shorter Grace Period: The departure grace period after completing your program or OPT is reduced from 60 days to 30 days.

Extensions Require DHS Approval: If you need more time to finish your studies or wish to start a new program, you must now file a formal Extension of Stay (EOS) application directly with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

New Academic Restrictions: F-1 students generally cannot change degree levels or transfer to a different school during their first academic year. Furthermore, you may only begin a new program at a higher educational level; lateral or reverse degree changes are prohibited.
